Eventing is an equestrian sport that consists of three phases: dressage, cross country, and stadium jumping.
- Dressage involves memorizing a series of movements and performing them in front of a judge, for which the rider and horse will be given points.
- Cross country is jumping out in the open over natural obstacles over varied terrain; riders are penalized for finishing over the optimum time and for any refusals at fences.
- Stadium jumping is jumping in an enclosed arena over fences that are easily knocked down; the objective is to make it under the time allowed without knocking any fences down.
